Tuesday, May 25, 2021

The Miami Valley Young Marines competed in the Drill Heroes competition on Sunday, May 23, 2021. The competition, held at the Miami Valley Veteran's Museum, brought youth from across the area to showcase the skills they'd learned. Miami Valley Young Marines Sgt. Matthew Waller said the drill competition included basic movements such as left face and right face.

Unit Commander Keagan Miller said he's volunteered with the organization for 17 years, "To see the growth of these youth over the years is a great experience for us as well as them." Miller continued, "It teaches the youth to look out for people besides themselves."

Karen Purke, Executive Director with the Miami Valley Veteran's Museum said the Young Marines had been holding the competition for the last three years. She said, "I think the young marines are a great example of young people doing things to serve their community and serve their country."
